“Dives in Makarska are usually with excellent viability, not very very deep. Usually 12 18 m ofcourse it is going to 30 35 but not necessary.
Our 2 km reef OSEJAVA IS amazing long.
So we have more ankering places there. YUST 5 MIN FAR By boat. We start at 8 and 12 we are back with 2 dives there.” Bojan

 

Underwater World of the Osejava Peninsula Reef (Makarska)

The underwater landscape around the Osejava Peninsula in Makarska is one of the most dynamic coastal diving areas in central Dalmatia. The reef extends along steep rocky shores, offering a mix of shallow rocky terraces, small caves, overhangs, and deeper drop-offs.

Shallow Zone (0–20 m)

In the shallows, the bottom is shaped by rock formations, boulders, sandy pockets, and patches of Posidonia oceanica. Visibility is excellent, often more than 20 meters.

Common species:

  • Salema, seabreams, wrasses
  • Octopus, cuttlefish, moray eel
  • Scorpionfish, small groupers
  • Starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers

A perfect area for snorkeling and relaxed recreational diving.

Reef, Caves & Overhangs (15–25 m)

Further out, the seabed transitions into natural rocky ridges and small caves carved by waves. Overhangs provide shelter for many species.

Typical life here:

  • Yellow and orange sponges
  • Sea squirts
  • Small gorgonians
  • Lobsters, hermit crabs, and shrimps
  • Damselfish schools and juvenile Anthias

These formations make Osejava a visually attractive dive site with great photographic potential.

Walls & Drop-offs (25–40 m)

Beyond 25 meters, steep walls and vertical drop-offs appear along the reef edges. These areas host colorful filter-feeders and larger fish.

Common deeper species:

  • Gorgonians (Eunicella spp.)
  • Soft corals (Dead Man’s Fingers)
  • Large scorpionfish
  • Groupers and dentex passing in open water
  • Spider crabs, lobsters, cave shrimps

The combination of relief, biodiversity, and visibility makes Osejava one of Makarska’s signature underwater spots.

🌊 HRVATSKI – Podmorje grebena poluotoka Osejava (Makarska)

Podmorje oko poluotoka Osejava u Makarskoj jedno je od najraznolikijih i najatraktivnijih ronilačkih područja u srednjoj Dalmaciji. Greben prati strmu obalu i nudi spoj plitkih terasa, manjih špilja, prevjesa i dubljih zidova.

Plitko područje (0–20 m)

U pličini prevladavaju kamene formacije, veći kameni blokovi, pješčane udubine i livade posidonije. Vidljivost je izvrsna, često preko 20 metara.

Česte vrste:

  • Ušate, šarzi, knezovi i pisanice
  • Hobotnica, sipa, murina
  • Škarpine i manje kirnje
  • Morske zvijezde, ježinci, trpovi

Odlična zona za snorkeling i lagane rekreativne zarone.

Grebeni, špilje i prevjesi (15–25 m)

Niz dublje teren prelazi u prirodne kamene grebene i manje špilje koje je oblikovalo valjanje mora. Prevjesi nude zaklon mnogim vrstama.

Tipične vrste:

  • Žute i narančaste spužve
  • Morski tuljci (ascidije)
  • Manje gorgonije
  • Jastozi, rakovi samci i kozice
  • Jata glavoča i mladih anthiasa

Reljef je vrlo fotogeničan i privlačan za podvodne fotografe.

Zidovi i litice (25–40 m)

Ispod 25 metara pojavljuju se strmi zidovi i vertikalni padovi uz rub grebena. Ovi dijelovi obilježeni su bogatim filtratorima i većim ribama.

Česte dublje vrste:

  • Gorgonije (Eunicella spp.)
  • Mrtvački prsti (mekani koralji)
  • Velike škarpine
  • Kirnja i zubatac u otvorenoj vodi
  • Pauci, jastozi i kozice u pukotinama

Spoj odlične vidljivosti, boja i raznolikog reljefa čini Osejavu jednim od najljepših ronilačkih lokaliteta u Makarskoj.

Nugal West

is wall descending from 3 to 40 metres .Gorgones Y.corall, small piramida and holes you can discover. In summer we have excellent visibility. Than you can so enjoy at this very close spot. Very very rich sea life.

Nugal south

Is reef till 12 m depth beautiful with stone formations and rich life of fish ,spunches.There is roman cheramic for bilding roofs.

Kraljev Gaj

Is very close and one very,very nice reef .It is island on the sand by 17 m depth till 35 m.There are ussually octopuses and skorpion fishes of few kilogram big.You can find lot of spunches , coralls and small fishes.

Gradina

is reef from 0 to 30 m with one ussually very good visibility.Stones and channels are very different than other reefs.There is a lot of very small peaces of roman and illiric cheramic.

Gradina South

are of underwater holes. Holes are in Bottom covered with shells and yelow coral. It is very interesting dive in good visability 20 meters with plenty of flora and fauna as colourful corals skorpion fish,morays,lobster…

Supjaca
Reef is laying on 15 metres to 24 m. depth.Good place for searching fishes in holes.It is lot of corals,spunches,small fishes..many many fishes usata.

Prag Sv.Petar
Reef is laying from 3 to 24 metres. You can see stones formation and holes with octopus ,Ugor,Skorpion.Location is quite when are big waves from wind jugo, and is very closed to diving school.

Kamen ispod Dalmacije

Is my father Milan Runtic place.
In 70′ 80′ he was catching lot lot of fish there. Its only 2 min far. AOWD DIVERS ONLY!
Reef is laying to 40 metres deepth. Stones are nice with yellow coral and red gorgone.You can see some holes with Ugor or another fish.Spot is small but good for short type of diving near diving school.

Garma

Location is from 6 to37 m .Stones are very long about 200 metres,and it is very dificult everything to see in one dive .There is living yellow coral,gorgones,crabs grancikula,bogdan ,langusta.Fisher lines are talking that it is good spot for fishermen.

Veprika II

Spot is stoneslike stairs descending to 30 metres.It was the way to Makarska port and you can find allways somethings from boats,fishemans.Sometime there are lot of fishes in group . In Croatian called ovcica ,cipal,komarca…That is also rich spot with old cheramic peaces.

Križ

Reef is laying to 20 metres deepth.Stones are nice with yellow coral and red gorgone.You can see some holes fish.Spot is small but good for short easy type of DIVING.EXCELLENT Place here are usually small courents, so possibly drift diving. Very clean good visability.

Riga

Its amazing nice close spot. Very very rich, an excellent place for discover and owd groups. From July to October there is fantastic visability.
